Can you expect the same house cleaner everytime?
Today I am looking at number 7 on the list of “13 Things Your Housecleaner Won’t Tell You” This list was part of a recent segment by Readers Digest that was presented on Good Morning America. Number 7 on the list is; If you use a service instead of an individual, ask for the same people every time. Your cleanings will be more consistent, with fewer strangers in your home.
I don’t like this statement at all! Unfortunatley, one of the biggest issues facing the cleaning industry is employee turnover. With that said, any company that tells you they will send you the same cleaner time after time is lying to you. Due to the turnover that this industry has, there is no guarantee how long an employee will stay. So to tell you that you will have the same person time and again is just not true. It is every companies wish to try to send along a consistent person, but that just won’t always happen. There are also times when employees are out sick, or on vacation and you’ll have someone else doing a cleaning for you. So for various reasons, it is not a good idea to tell someone “they’ll always have the same person”.
I’m sure on the surface this is a scary thing to think about. However, if you look a it with an open mind you’ll see how choosing the right company to do business with can make all the difference in world. You need to remember that when you made the decision on what company you were going to work with, you based your decision on things like the price, but also how comfortable you were with the company you’d be working with . Other things you might have considered were,
- Was the person conducting your estimate professional and on time
- Did they have a complete knowledge of your surfaces and the products needed to clean them.
- Did they care about you and your specific needs
- What type of image was being presented during the estimate
Those are just a few of the many things you considered. The bottom line is, you made the decision on what company to use, based on the company that best fit your needs, budget and the one you trusted the most in your home. At the time of the estimate you knew little to nothing about any employees at all. Now please don’t mistake this for how important having the right fit between a client and employee is. However, if you trust the company you are working with and that is why you originally decided to work with them, then no matter who they send they will be able to make your experience a great one!
In a previous blog I wrote about a few of the pre-employement steps any good company should be taking. To read that blog, click below.
The second thing a good company will be doing is having a training program for their employees. You’ll want to ask about the type of training that employees receive. This is important because it will show you how a company ensures employees are prepared to do the job at a high level. A good training program should last at least a few weeks and should be designed to produce top quality cleaners.
At Total Cleaning Plus, we don’t allow our employees into clients homes alone or unsupervised until they have passed a “test” house. They have to be able to clean it to spec or else we follow up with more training. You should feel comfortable knowing that no matter who cleans your home, the end result should be a home cleaned to your level of expectation.
So hopefully you can see that by working with a company who understand the importance of proper hiring procedures and training, all your worries should be gone. You’ll no longer have to worry about who is in your home, you’ll be able to just look forward to coming home to a house that sparkles.
Check back soon when I’ll be going over number 8 on the list of “13 Things Your Housecleaner Won’t Tell You”. Number 8 on that list is; When using a new maid service, leave a few dollars hanging out of a pants pocket or lying on the counter. If we take a dollar or two, you’ll know we’re probably going to take other things. If you have any questions call Total Cleaning Plus to get all your answers.
